I am a surface pattern designer based in Dorset.
I graduated with a BA HONS in fashion and textile design from Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication. After a 10 year career as manager of the Paul & Joe UK franchise I decided to leave the hustle of London behind, and with my dog Pandora relocated to Dorset where the urge to be creative again inspired the launch of Emse & Esme.
I began by designing a collection of scarves, that's now evolved to include other accessories using different printing methods; digital, screen and vinyl printing.
My design process
I work in my studio/library surrounded floor to ceiling with books, overlooking my beloved flower filled garden.
My designs always start with a drawing, usually a black ink drawing or a sharpie sketch, I then scan the original image into my computer and develop the design.
I have a passion for colour, pattern and quirky prints. I can't pinpoint what inspires me, anything and everything does. Ideas often come to me when I'm walking my dog, and am surrounded by nature. I use my camera daily to capture colour ways that inspire me and natural forms.
I don't believe pattern should be trend led, good pattern design is timeless
